Introducing participant referrals

From June 2024, we’ll be inviting some participants to refer their friends to Prolific, earning the referrer a bonus payment (subject to certain criteria being met), and giving the referee access to take studies and earn rewards.

How does it work?

If you are eligible to make a referral, you’ll see a pink ‘Refer a Friend’ button when you’re logged in to Prolific.

This will take you to the referral stage, where it will show you the referral criteria, for example ‘Current Country of Residence: France’.

You can then enter the email addresses of the people you would like to refer, who meet this criteria, separated by a comma.

The referred participant will then receive an email, with a link inviting them to sign up to Prolific.

Once the referred participant completes the required number of studies successfully, you will receive your reward in your Prolific account balance.

Who can refer a friend?

The ‘Refer a Friend’ button will only appear to participants who are currently eligible to make referrals. To keep access to studies fair, we enable referrals based on researcher demand, so make sure you check for any updates in Prolific!
