A submission represents a completed study. You can view all studies you've signed up for on your Submissions page in your Prolific account. Each study displays its status on the right-hand side. Read on to learn what each status means.
Awaiting Review
Your study has been successfully submitted and is now awaiting review by the researcher. While researchers have up to 22 days to review submissions, they typically complete reviews much sooner. If no review occurs within 22 days, Prolific will automatically approve the submission. You can read more about this here: When will I be paid for a study?
Approved
The researcher has reviewed and approved your submission. Great news—your payment is now in your account and available to withdraw!
Returned
If you cancel a study before completing it by clicking 'return and cancel reward,' you won't receive payment. A returned study has no impact on your account standing.
In some cases, Prolific staff will return submissions on behalf of researchers or participants—typically when technical issues occur. You can find more info here: Returned Submissions
Timed-out
Every study has a maximum time limit. Once you exceed this limit, you won't be able to submit the study. You can check the maximum allowed time by hovering over the estimated completion time on the study page. If your submission times out, it won't affect your account standing, but you won't receive payment. You can read more here: Why does my submission show as 'timed out'?
Rejected
The researcher has reviewed and rejected your submission. You will not receive payment for a rejected study, and multiple rejections can negatively affect your account status.
Researchers must provide a reason for rejection that aligns with Prolific's guidelines. You can read more about rejections here: Why has my submission been rejected?
Screened-out
You have not met the study's eligibility requirements. The researcher should compensate you with a reward based on the time you spent participating. Being screened out has no impact on your account standing.
You can read more about screening-out here: Can I be screened out of a study?
