This article is only relevant for participants who have been informed by Prolific that they will receive payments via Wise rather than Paypal.
Prolific generally pays participants via PayPal via Hyperwallet, however, this is not possible in your country. Instead, you will receive payments via Wise at the end of the month.
You’ll need to take these steps to ensure you can be paid:
- Set up a Wise account using the same email address as your Prolific account in your local currency
- Link your chosen bank account on Wise
- Mark your chosen bank account as your Primary account on Wise
How do I open a Wise Account?
You’ll have to register and create an account with Wise in your local currency.
To register you’ll need to:
1. Share your legal name
2. Date of birth
3. Address
4. Email address (as on Prolific)
5. Share your phone number for 2-step verification
6. Tell Wise the country you live in.
Wise may request additional documents to verify your identity.

Please ensure you set up a Wise account at the same time as your Prolific account using the same email address so you can receive your earnings. If you already have a Wise account you will need to ensure your Wise account and Prolific account use the same email address as payments will be sent to the email address associated with your Prolific account. How do I add my bank account and mark it as primary?
To add your bank account:
- Log in to your account on the website.
- Click on your initials, or on your profile picture on the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Go to Connected accounts.
- Click Connect your bank account.
- Follow the steps on the screen.
To mark your bank account as your primary account:
- On your Recipients page, next to your bank accounts, select Mark as primary account.
What if I have a Wise account associated with a different email address?
We can only send funds to the email address address associated with your Prolific account. You have the option to change your Prolific email address at any time. To change your email on Prolific:
- Click on your initials in the upper right-hand corner
- Go to your 'Account' page. Here you'll see 'Email'
- On the right-hand side, click 'Edit' and a box will pop up
- Enter your Prolific password and the new email address
- Next follow the steps to verify the new email address.
When will I be paid?
If you have a balance on If you have a balance on your Prolific account you will be paid automatically in our monthly payment run around the 28th of the month.
What will I be paid?
You will receive an equivalent amount in your local currency of your estimate GBP earnings on Prolific.
